Since 1986, Pauline Davis, A.D. Davis, and owner Lee R. McCormick have used their knowledge and love of raising cattle to make Piney River Cattle Company the best in the business. What began as a commercial backgrounding and cattle feeding business evolved into a holistic practice aimed at producing the best local, humanely grown grass-fed beef, pork, and lamb.
Why do we go through the extra effort to raise animals the way we do? At Piney River Cattle Company, we offer the same quality cuts to you that we feed to our own families. Our cattle are raised in open grass pastures using mob grazing techniques. We never use antibiotics or growth hormones on our animals. Our products are handled through USDA certified slaughter facility, and are vacuum-sealed for optimum storage life.
It’s true there are many ups and downs that come with the Cow Calf way of life. Contracts and future markets depend on shifting conditions like grain, oil, weather, politics, and a variety of other factors that impact the market. But after more than 25 years in the business, we know how to adapt to current and approaching conditions using tried-and-true practices. We do what we love and love what we do, and we do always do it well.
In 2009, we began to adopt the mob grazing practices of Ian Mitchell Innes as a low input way to convert grass and forage to beef. This method gives customers the best meat available and creates a sustainable, profitable business for ranchers. This honest, grounded, and productive way of life is at the heart of Piney River Cattle Company. We believe in humane treatment for animals, respect for the land, and quality results for our customers.
At the heart of our business is a commitment to the humane treatment of our animals, respect for the land, and high quality meats and produce for our customers.
We run 700 female cows at present. Each year, fall calves are carried over to full yearlings. Our herd of Purebred Murray Gray Cattle are some of the finest animals this side of Tennessee. We also sell some purebred bulls. All full blood heifers are currently being used to expand our herd and genetic base. With time, we plan to create a closed herd comprised of 3/4 Murray Gray, 1/4 Lasater Beefmaster.
Have questions? We’d love to talk to you about grass-fed genetics for feeder cattle or breeding stock, give you a tour of the land and facilities, and answer any other questions you have for us.
